BUILDING SURVEYOR

(24 Month Contract) Full Time – 35 hours per week

£29,337 - £35,032 per annum

Closing date - Tuesday 9th February 2021, noon.

Interviews - Thursday 25th February 2021 via Zoom.

The Diocese of Manchester is the Church of England in Bolton, Bury, Leigh, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford and parts of Rossendale, Stockport, Tameside and Trafford.

We wish to appoint a suitably qualified professional to join our team as a Building Surveyor within the Land and Property Services Team on a two-year fixed term contract.

The post holder will work with the wider property team to support the Director of Land and Property in managing a portfolio of residential property, church buildings and investment/ commercial properties. Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide support in the acquisition and disposal of property,
  • Provide professional and technical advice on various aspects including property maintenance and upgrades, rentals/ and tenancy. 
  • oversee routine maintenance of church property on a planned and quinquennial basis 
  • respond to emergency repairs
  • Ensure statutory compliance relating to gas, electrical, asbestos etc across the Diocese.
  • Manage supplier contracts and property-related grant applications 
  • Develop IT systems for the management of properties
  • Represent the Diocese when attending meetings such as Church Commissioners meetings, Diocesan committee meetings,
  • Liaise with diverse stakeholders including Church Commissioner, Incumbents, PCC’s, Archdeacons, diocesan officers, estate agents, landlords, suppliers and local authority agents
  • Liaise with the Buildings Officer on the planned maintenance and redecoration of parsonages

The post holder will ideally have a Building Surveying background but we may consider a General Practice Surveyor with suitable Building Surveying experience. The successful candidate must be able to work in a broad and multi-disciplinary way and will be familiar with, and have a working knowledge of, appropriate church Measures and an understanding of the structures of the Church of England. You will also have an up-to date, sound knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, CDM regulations and other relevant statutory requirements.

As the role will require extensive travel, a full and current driving licence will be necessary.
