Affordable Housing/Viability Surveyor/Senior Surveyor

My client is keen to add to their Development team, primarily for Viability purposes. The team provides viability and affordable housing advice to planning applicants (developers & landowners). Their advice at the pre-application stage informs developers on the level of affordable housing and other planning contributions required within their proposed development.

After the scheme has been fixed, my client then prepare Financial Viability Assessments which are submitted as part of the planning application to justify the level of affordable housing included within the development. My client then enters into negotiations with the Council’s viability advisors in order that an agreement be reached.

About the role

Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

• Reporting into Partners within the Development team on a project-by project basis, liaising with project team members (e.g. planners, architects, quantity surveyors and lawyers) to source information for development appraisals
• Constructing and interpreting complex development appraisals for various reasons, mainly for Financial Viability Assessments purposes to support our clients’ planning applications
• Undertaking valuations of existing properties and/or land
• Undertaking research and sourcing evidence to support valuations (for viability purposes) – commercial and residential properties
• Writing Financial Viability Assessment reports to justify levels of affordable housing and other planning benefits contained within a planning application
• Negotiating with Councils’ Viability advisors in order that agreements be reached
• Assist with mentoring junior staff including helping guide career development
• Attending meetings with clients, planning authorities and their consultants to discuss and further substantiate the reports and appraisals Identifying and sourcing/securing new business

About you

• Surveyor to Associate level
• MRICS qualified and RICS Registered Valuer
• A keen interest in development and making a difference to the built environment
• A head for figures and ability to prepare accurate development appraisals (Argus and Excel)
• Experience in development consultancy and agency
• Excellent report writing skills
• Understanding the public sector policies and processes
• Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively with clients
• Prepared to contribute to supporting the wider business
• Ability to take the initiative and think strategically about projects
