Job description

The Valuation Office Agency are recruiting experienced Chartered Valuation Surveyors across the UK to undertake complex and high profile Non Domestic Rating casework and/or leadership roles within both the National Valuation Unit and the Regional Valuation Units. Roles may include: Complex Caseworkers, Technical Leads, Revaluation Programme Leads or Team Leaders.

We are eager to hear from experienced Valuation Surveyors with rating experience, having dealt with a broad range of property types across different valuation methodologies.

Job description/details

  • Delivery of complex Non Domestic Rating casework, and/or to provide technical leadership, guidance and support to caseworkers in the National and/or Regional Valuation Units
  • Supporting the delivery of the Revaluation Programme
  • Leading, motivating and inspiring others to deliver results including sharing your professional knowledge to help others develop.
  • To set, and maintain strategic overview of the framework for the work of team, including embedding VOA vision and values
  • To offer advice or guidance on complex issues which cannot be resolved within the normal rules or precedents.
  • To provide expert witness and advocacy in complex litigation at VTE/VTW/UTLC and beyond.
  • To act as a Counsellor/Supervisor to colleagues undertaking profession qualifications
  • If appropriate to the role undertake selected casework where the outcome has a wider impact, setting frameworks or, where a high level of expertise is required, resolving the issues raised. You will also review broad evidence across and within schemes.

 

Responsibilities

Person Specification

  • Strong Leadership skills
  • MRICS/FRICS or IRRV (hons) qualified in the valuation or real estate pathways.
  • In-depth technical expertise of Rating Valuation work including full knowledge and understanding of the work area in order to make sound and balanced judgements.
  • Ability to interpret and apply general legislation and case law.
  • Demonstrates the application of technical knowledge, valuation methodology and legal requirements along with an understanding of the commercial and economic environment to inform decision making.

Understands and complies with statutory and non-statutory requirements arising from legislation, case law, codes of practice and professional standards.

  • Proactively keeps technical knowledge up-to-date and use it to provide advice and guidance to their teams. Demonstrates a personal and professional commitment to the profession by actively participating in and promoting professional activities. Builds and engages with internal and external networks to share professional knowledge and experience and to develop others.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills - to use high levels of negotiating, consulting and interpersonal skills to achieve co-operation over mutually acceptable solutions
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to deal with a wide range of customers, and partners.

Essential Requirements

  • Full MRICS/FRICS or , IRRV (hons) qualified in the valuation or real estate pathways, with a personal and professional dedication to your ongoing development.
  • 3 years post qualification experience
  • Experience of working in Non-Domestic Rating
  • Willingness to act as a Counsellor/Supervisor to colleagues undertaking professional qualification studies

Benefits

We offer a range of flexible working options, a generous leave allowance that starts at 25 days and goes up to 30 days after 5 years’ service and a pension scheme. Maternity, adoption or shared parental leave of up to 26 weeks with full pay followed by 13 weeks statutory pay and a further 13 weeks unpaid, and paternity leave of 2 weeks at full pay.
