We are an executive agency of HMRC with around 3,500 people and currently need people to carry out a range of data processing and administrative tasks to support the operational functions of the Valuation Office Agency.

 

Job description

Successful applicants will work within a Regional Valuation Unit and can be deployed to work across a range of Rent Officer Functions, Council Tax and Non Domestic Rating

Rent Officer Functions – This area covers collecting Lettings Information and maintaining relationships with agents, tenants and landlords. Registration of Fair Rent’s and carry out Rental Valuations for Housing Benefit purposes in England.

Council Tax – this area of our work deals with domestic properties such as flats and houses

Non Domestic Rating – this area covers business rates across all types of business properties from shops and warehouses to industrial units and pubs

We are looking for people who are self-motivated, can communicate well with a range of people, pay attention to detail and can use research and analytical skills in order to make sound decisions across these three business areas. Responsibilities include:

  • Using your research and analytical skills to interpret information and make judgements in order to make evidence based decisions on a range of cases across the three business areas. Work within current legislation and organisational policy and guidelines.
  • Be accountable for decisions made.
  • Research and assess casework to support Rent Officer Functions.
  • Direct contact with ratepayers/taxpayers and agents by phone or email.
  • Inputting and downloading of data into our computer systems.
  • Appear at Valuation Tribunal representing the Valuation Office - presenting evidence to the Tribunal members following discussions with taxpayers and/or agents where an agreement cannot be reached.
  • Build relationships by working closely with other Property Caseworkers, Researchers, and Inspectors and wider teams within the Valuation Office.
  • Comply with VOA security policy

Have good horizon scanning skills – the ability to identify and mitigate against future problems.

Essential Criteria

  • Have worked within the property industry. i.e. Worked within Estate Agents, within property market research, Council Tax, Housing Allowances, Non Domestic Business rates or any other property area.

Desirable Criteria

  • Hold a full driving license.
  • Are willing and able to travel. This is particularly important when dealing with Rent Officer Function matters
  • Be customer focused and have strong customer service skills.
  • Good at communicating with different people and listening.
  • Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Benefits

We offer a range of flexible working options, a generous leave allowance that starts at 25 days and goes up to 30 days after 5 years’ service and a pension scheme.

Maternity, adoption or shared parental leave of up to 26 weeks with full pay followed by 13 weeks statutory pay and a further 13 weeks unpaid, and paternity leave of 2 weeks at full pay.
