The Council’s newly created Place-shaping and Economic Growth service is looking for a proactive, creative, customer focussed and experienced Building Control Officer who is capable of dealing with a full range of schemes including domestic extensions and alterations, large scale housing developments and substantial commercial schemes across our diverse and characterful district.

This is an exciting time for the team with a new Local Plan in place, a new focus on housing and strategic site delivery and a key role in delivering many of the Council’s strategic priorities and projects.

As a senior member of the Building Control team, you will be knowledgeable in carrying out Building Control functions at all competency levels, such as checking Building Control applications, site inspections, carrying out enforcement procedures and attending to dangerous structures. You will ideally be educated to degree level in an appropriate Building Surveying discipline and be a member or the RICS, CABE, or similar.

You will carry out professional duties in order to ensure developments achieve compliance with the Building Regulations and associated Legislations, as well as liaising with internal and external contacts to ensure information exchange and developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.

You will deputise for the Principal Building Control Officer in their absence and assist with the supervision and training of other Building Control Officers.

In addition, you will use your extensive knowledge of Building Control to assist in the promotion of and commercial aims of the service.
