Overview

If you have substantial expert experience within Building Control and proven leadership ability with evidence of developing, managing and inspiring staff, this could be the role for you.

We are looking for a commercially focused Building Control Manager, to deliver high quality professional services for our customers and provide effective leadership to a newly formed team.

By joining us as a Building Control Manager at Buckinghamshire Council, you'll have the ability to drive change and shape the Building Control team, taking into account new legislation being introduced.

About us

Building Control sits within Planning and Development, as part of our Planning, Growth and Sustainability directorate.

Our Planning, Growth and Sustainability directorate work with partners to help shape the future of Buckinghamshire. We deliver services on planning, economic growth, regeneration, strategic infrastructure, transport and property.

Our key priorities include developing the economic narrative for Bucks, creating more jobs and delivering the right infrastructure to help businesses and residents thrive.

Our recent transformation to a unitary council is already creating diverse and multi-disciplined opportunities across the directorate, and we are excited to see what is to come.

About the role

The Building Control Manager is responsible for leading the provision of expert professional advice and delivery of effective regulatory services in Building Control, providing a consistent, high quality and competitive service that is responsive to customer demands to facilitate appropriate development of a high construction standard and to protect the people within Buckinghamshire.

Christine Urry Head of Planning and Development at Buckinghamshire Council said, 'If you are committed to building an exceptional Building Control team, working as part of a wider management team in a new and exciting unitary authority, this role is most definitely for you'

With a strong and supportive senior management team behind you, you'll play a critical role in helping us achieve our Planning and Environment Business plan and drive forward our vision as a new unitary authority.

About you

Naturally, you'll have excellent interpersonal, persuasion, and negotiation skills with experience of building and maintaining key relationships with delivery partners, suppliers and customers.

You will be commercially focused, positively promoting and selling services in order to increase revenue gain and market share. Alongside this you will have proven experience in budget planning and management.

You will have a high level of personal expertise and experience in Building Control. You will be able to provide expert advice on major issues, including major emergency incidents and dangerous structures on behalf of the Council.

You are committed to the delivery of continuous improvements in all aspects of Building Control including innovations to provide a customer orientated service, which enables customer to self-serve, making the best use of technology.

You will have degree in a relevant subject (or relevant work experience), full membership of RICS, CIOB or CABE and evidence of continuous professional development.

Other information

Our response as an employer to Covid-19 has shaped the way we want to work in the future. Microsoft Teams, Skype, and vlogs from our Senior Leadership Team have all played their part in allowing us to become even more flexible in how, when, and where our teams work.

There will be times where you'll need to be in the office - whether that's for meeting clients or collaborating with peers - but we actively encourage our colleagues to adopt a flexible working approach and take control of their work-life balance. Our main offices are based in Aylesbury, Amersham & High Wycombe.

If that's not enough reason to join us, you'll be entitled to a range of benefits from Buckinghamshire Council including a very competitive employer pension contribution; a minimum of 25 days annual leave allowance per year; a flex-time scheme; and discounts in local shops, restaurants, and gyms.
