About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Commercial Internal Auditor (Construction) to support the Head of Risk & Assurance in the delivery of the internal audit function across the Churchill Retirement Group.

Based in our stunning Head Office in Ringwood, Hampshire, the internal audit department provides independent and objective assurance and consultancy activity, designed to support the Group in achieving its strategic goals, reducing the risk of both financial and reputational damage and improving the Group’s operations. 

The role is extremely varied and you will be expected to lead on your assigned reviews, identify key risks and assess the design and operating effectiveness of key processes and controls and make pragmatic and relevant recommendations.

The majority of your time will be spent auditing Churchill Retirement Limited’s commercial and construction activities. Typically you will review; land appraisals, development budgets, subcontractor and material procurement and management, interim valuations and payment certificates, variance reporting, final accounts, management of build programmes, build quality, development handovers and Health & Safety compliance. 

You may also be asked on occasions to carry out reviews in the following areas;

  • Sales and Customer Services
  • FCA regulated products within Churchill Retirement (Group) Limited,
  • planning consultancy given by Planning Issues Limited,
  • managing agent services provided by Millstream Management Services Limited,
  • telecare monitoring services provided by Careline Support Limited,
  • head office functions such as; IT, HR, finance and payroll, and
  • other compliance matters such as Data Protection and Anti-Money Laundering. 

Whilst the job is based in Ringwood, you will need to travel to regional offices and developments in accordance with the delivery of the internal audit plan and therefore you will need a full driving licence.

Hours of work are 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Thursday and 9.00am to 5.00pm on Friday with one hour for lunch each day. 

About you

We would like you to have strong integrity and a passion for Audit.

You will have at least 5 years proven experience in delivering operational and compliance audits in the construction industry.

Ideally you should be qualified in professional auditing or accounting qualification (i.e. CMIIA, CIA, QIAL, PIIA, ACA, ACCA) and or hold a professional surveying qualification (i.e. AssocRICS).    

It is important that you have the ability to critically assess commercial contracts, procurement processes and have a good working knowledge of both the Construction Act and safe Health & Safety working practices.

You will have strong verbal and written communication skills. An analytical, problem solving mind set, detail orientated but able to grasp the bigger picture.

You will need to be organised, result focused and have the ability to work independently to tight deadlines and use your own initiative.

Applicants should have good presentation and report writing skills and sound use of Microsoft Office or 365, including Outlook/Email, Word and Excel. Experience of COINS would be a distinct advantage.
