Job Details

Overview

Buckinghamshire Council are excited to be offering this opportunity to join our Building Control team.

Following our merger into a new unitary authority, our successful multi-disciplined team are looking for ambitious Building Control Surveyors to come and work with us.

As we are committed to developing our staff, you will be able to build on your existing qualifications and experience.

About us

Building Control sits within Planning and Development, as part of our Planning, Growth and Sustainability directorate.

Our Planning, Growth and Sustainability directorate work with partners to help shape the future of Buckinghamshire. We deliver services on planning, economic growth, regeneration, strategic infrastructure, transport and property.

Our key priorities include developing the economic narrative for Bucks, creating more jobs and delivering the right infrastructure to help businesses and residents thrive.

Our recent transformation to a unitary council is already creating diverse and multi-disciplined opportunities across the directorate, and we are excited to see what is to come.

About the role

As a Building Control Surveyor, you will manage an area for plan checking and site inspections dealing with residential and commercial projects. This will include investigating unauthorised work.

You will be one of our lead surveyors on several projects and partnerships, so it is important to develop effective client relationships. You will also be key in promoting the service to gain and retain customers.

We will provide support to develop your knowledge and the ability to deal with more complex building projects - this will also include dealing with dangerous structures and the enforcement processes.

About you

We are looking for someone who has excellent interpersonal skills and experience of building and maintaining key relationships with partners and customers. You will have a good level of knowledge and understanding of building control legislation and have practical experience as a Building Control Surveyor, including dealing with minor commercial applications.

You will have a degree in a relevant subject (or substantial relevant work experience) and be working towards full membership of RICS, CIOB or CABE.

Other information

Our response as an employer to Covid-19 has shaped the way we want to work in the future.

This job does require carrying out site visits daily, but we actively encourage the team to adopt a flexible working approach to improve their work-life balance. This includes working from home and attending the office as and when required, such as face-to-face meetings.

Our main offices are based in Aylesbury, Amersham & High Wycombe.

You will also be entitled to a range of benefits from Buckinghamshire Council including a very competitive employer pension contribution; a minimum of 25 days annual leave allowance per year; a flex-time scheme; and discounts in local shops, restaurants, and gyms.
