Buckinghamshire Council are excited to be offering this opportunity to join our Building Control team.
Following our merger into a new unitary authority, our successful multi-disciplined team are looking for ambitious Building Control Surveyors to come and work with us.
As we are committed to developing our staff, you will be able to build on your existing qualifications and experience.
Building Control sits within Planning and Development, as part of our Planning, Growth and Sustainability directorate.
We have a surveying team with varied competencies ranging from Trainee through to Principal and have increased the number of posts to enable us to meet market demands and provide a resilient building control service.
The service is undergoing a busy transformation programme which will streamline and simplify the customer experience, improve our market share and increase the potential for personal development for the whole team.
This is an exciting time to be joining us.
About the role
As a Principal Building Control Surveyor, you will be one of the lead surveyors providing guidance and advice on all building control matters.
You will manage an area for plan checking and site inspections, dealing with a wide range of projects including residential, commercial, mixed-use and complex schemes. This also includes dealing with dangerous structures and attending other emergency incidents.
We have a number of partnerships and cross boundary working agreements that you would lead on so it is important to develop effective client relationships. You will also be key in promoting the service to gain and retain customers.
We are fully committed to training and developing our staff and as an experienced Building Control Surveyor, you will provide mentor support to trainees and assistant colleagues.
We are looking for someone who has excellent interpersonal, persuasion, and negotiation skills with experience of building and maintaining key relationships with partners and customers. You will be fully conversant with the building control legislation and have a high level of personal experience working on commercial, mixed use and complex schemes.
Given the diversity of building projects you will be working on and the range of customers, you will need to demonstrate good project management methodologies and systems in building control.
You will have a degree in a relevant subject (or substantial relevant work experience), full membership of RICS, CIOB or CABE and evidence of continuous professional development and you will be validated as competent for fire safety in Higher Risk Buildings (by either a UKAS accredited organisation, Engineering Council or other accredited body).
Our response as an employer to Covid-19 has shaped the way we want to work in the future.
This job does require carrying out site visits daily, but we actively encourage the team to adopt a flexible working approach to improve their work-life balance. This includes working from home and attending the office as and when, and for attending face to face meetings.
Our main offices are based in Aylesbury, Amersham & High Wycombe.
You will also be entitled to a range of benefits from Buckinghamshire Council including a very competitive employer pension contribution; a minimum of 25 days annual leave allowance per year; a flex-time scheme; and discounts in local shops, restaurants, and gyms.
