Job Details

Crown Estate Scotland

Director of Property

Salary: £85,821 rising to £90,800 after 3 years (dependant on performance)

Location: Edinburgh (with regular travel around Scotland)

Crown Estate Scotland is a commercial public body, formed in 2017.

Our purpose is to invest in property, natural resources and people to generate lasting value for the people of Scotland, and we manage assets including buildings, land, coastline and seabed on their behalf.

Our profits go to Scottish public spending and we work with people and organisations to drive economic development and deliver social and environmental value.

We are now looking to appoint a Director of Property who will report into our Chief Executive, lead our Asset Management and Built Development Teams and, as a member of our Executive Team, contribute the wider leadership of Crown Estate Scotland.

Built development is an area of expansion and our property portfolio includes prime sites on Edinburgh’s George Street, as well as a range of rural development sites and investment opportunities.  We have recently acquired the 123 acre Zero4 development site at Montrose for creation of an ‘energy business park’ to support the development of the offshore renewable energy sector.  Alongside this, the Director of Property is responsible for 37,000 hectares of rural land across four major estates that includes over 100 farms and over 100 other land tenancies as well as forestry and sporting interests, 2300 coastal agreements, and historic rights to salmon fishing and naturally occurring gold and silver.  The Director of property will be instrumental in identifying opportunities for future investment and development projects in areas such as housing, commercial property and harbour improvements.

This is a diverse and challenging opportunity and will suit those with high levels of commercial acumen who are RICS qualified or equivalent, with a successful track record of built development experience or rural/coastal asset management.  You will bring the ability to manage a property portfolio of around £175million and demonstrable understanding of business principles including financial management, performance analysis and business case development.

In addition, you will be a board level operator who can demonstrate the emotional intelligence and political understanding to forge constructive and collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders including national and local government leaders, external interest groups and commercial partners.

This is a rare opportunity to play a pivotal role in driving economic development and delivering real economic, social and environmental value for Scotland.
