The role

Due to a department transition of a current team member (Building Surveying to PM) this leading Public Sector focused Construction Consultancy are looking for an APC enrolled Assistant Building Surveyor or Building Surveyor to join their dedicated Building Surveying team at their Oxford office.

Based in the brand new City Centre office (recently moving from the outskirts) the building surveying team of 4 works alongside the company's project management and cost consultancy teams, working collaboratively on a range of projects for a variety of public sector clients, including schools, colleges, local authorities and more, all within an hour's travel of the city.

As a building surveyor with 2+ years work you will be responsible for a mixture of technical survey work including condition reports, defect analysis and PPM, as well as contract administration and project management of repairs, improvements, refurbishment and fit-out projects across education, commercial, residential and other property types.

You will be largely delivery based to begin with and there is no requirement to pursue new revenue or business streams in your role, although if it is an area you enjoy or motivates you then there is every opportunity to focus on business development alongside your day to day instructions .

The rewards

This is an extremely rewarding career opportunity, especially for those looking for top range APC support from a working APC Assessor who knows the common mistakes and pitfalls of the Assessment of Professional Competence first hand, and knows how to prepare you for your assessment in order to avoid referral.

The role is equally rewarding in the scale & variety of work you'll be involved in, working on a huge range of property sizes, ages, build types and uses, ensuring more varied exposure than most competitors in the market.

Financial rewards include your basic salary, which dependent on level / experience could be between £32,000 and £37,000 per annum. Additional benefits include a private pension of up to 15% (10% employer, 5% employee contribution) which far surpasses the UK average for private sector.

The company also offers 25 days of annual leave in addition to 8 bank holidays, as well as a flexible benefits scheme which includes discounts on anything from retailers and restaurants to healthcare, gym memberships and cycle to work schemes.

The requirements

In order to be successful in your application you will need to be a building surveyor with a minimum of 2 years post graduation experience, preferably enrolled on your APC and working towards MRICS qualification. Alternatively this role could fit someone with 4-5 years experience who is looking for a role that offers APC support.

You will need to be able to work independently on basic instructions such as defect surveys and condition reports, with the confidence to carry out contract administration on projects using the traditional JCT suite.

Ideally prior experience working with public sector clients such as local authorities on either schools, commercial projects or planned maintenance programmes would be beneficial as this will allow you to adjust faster to your workload.

You will need to be motivated to progress to qualification and beyond. A detail oriented, articulate professional with strong written and verbal communication is the ideal candidate profile.

A full, valid UK driver's license, and access to a vehicle will be required for this position.
