Job Details

Exciting opportunity to help shape the future of the charity by leading on a wide range of capital projects that will transform the operations and visitor experience at the Heart of England Forest.

The Heart of England Forest is an exciting and ambitious charity working hard to create a huge new woodland in the heart of the country that will benefit people and wildlife for generations to come.

We take our mission very seriously; it has never been more important to invest in our natural environment.  Planting trees and creating new woodlands is no longer just a positive ambition for the country, it’s absolutely essential. It is the simplest solution to help mitigate climate change and create new green spaces that can help reconnect people and communities with nature and the natural environment.

Our goal is to reach 30,000 acres of semi contiguous forest by planting 13 million native broadleaf trees. To date we have planted almost 1.9 million trees.  The significance and scale of our work cannot be underestimated: The Heart of England Forest, already the largest new native forest in the country – will become one of the largest forests in the UK.

Not only is our Forest expanding, so too is our team, and we have an exciting opportunity for you to join us.  The charity is a rewarding place to work and offers its staff a number of benefits.

As a significant land owner, the Heart of England Forest requires a commercially astute individual to increase income streams and maximise the revenue generation potential of the extensive and varied assets that it owns to secure sustainable funds to meet the Charity’s operational costs as it develops and grows. We would love to hear from an experienced senior manager, looking for their next challenge, who is committed to conservation and enthusiastic about investing in our environment.

The role will encompass a commercial lead on the delivery of new projects along with effective estate management to protect the charity’s assets. These include holiday cottages, marina facilities, repurposing redundant farm buildings, a residential and commercial portfolio, as well as our forestry and farming infrastructure. The role is diverse, and could be dealing with anything from an encroachment or wayleave agreement to submitting planning applications, writing tender specifications, and managing significant capital projects.

The ideal candidate is a team player able to demonstrate proven commercial acumen and project management expertise within a land management setting, experience of regulatory compliance and with a strong attention to detail. The role will suit an innovative candidate able to spot opportunities, and is likely to appeal to candidates from a wide range of backgrounds including property, rural surveying, planning or compliance. You should have a passion for conservation and the work of the charity.

Company

Whether you live in the heart of the forest, or you’re visiting our green and rolling Warwickshire / Worcestershire countryside, you can play a vital role in this exciting new woodland. Planting a tree is a great way of connecting with your environment and sowing the seeds of a better world for the next generation.

The forest stretches across the heart of England – along the Warwickshire / Worcestershire border from the north Cotswolds to south Birmingham, across the ancient Forest of Arden south to the edge of the Vale of Evesham. It’s an area dense in cities, towns and industry. Which is why we’re creating a place to walk under shady canopies and through airy glades, away from the bustle of city life.

The UK has less than a third of the native tree cover of many other European countries, including France, Germany and Italy. The Forest is a habitat of mosaics currently spanning over 6,000 acres, which includes 4,000 acres of new woodland creation. That’s more than 1.8 million trees. Our dream is for it to become 30,000 acres. But with patience and your support, who knows how far it will grow!
