Safety Project Surveyor

Full-time - 35 hours per week

SALARY: £46k - £48k with opportunity to progress to £52k via performance related increases plus Essential Car Allowance

Hexagon Housing owns and manages over 4300 general needs homes in South-East London and North Kent.  We take pride in providing high quality services to our customers, are committed to raising the quality of our services and putting residents at the heart of what we do.

Most staff members are currently working from home.  We are undertaking a full office refurbishment and plan to introduce hybrid working allowing staff the flexibility to work partly from home and partly from the office in SE26.

We have a fantastic opportunity for an outstanding candidate to join our Property Safety Team as the lead building surveyor with a focus on all property / health and safety related aspects of buildings, ensuring all that can reasonably done, is done, to make our residential buildings safe. 

This recently expanded team manages all aspects of property safety across Hexagon’s residential portfolio. This includes fire safety, electrical safety, water hygiene, maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment and structural safety amongst other areas of safety. 

Reporting to the Head of Property Safety you will be expected to have good levels of technical expertise to effectively engage with multiple stakeholders, and most importantly our residents to ensure that residents’ homes are safe at all times.

Key areas of accountability include:

• Provide robust technical advice to the Property Safety Department on buildings in relation to property safety, namely in relation to fire safety, gas safety, structural safety, water hygiene, electrical, lifts and asbestos. 

• Reviewing all activities that impact the safety of buildings, e.g. planned preventative maintenance, repairs, remediation works, refurbishments and servicing, and appropriately responding, to ensure all reasonable measures are taken to reduce risk.

• Undertaking regular site visits to ensure that works that impact on property safety are reviewed and any issues identified are escalated and managed until completion. 

In addition to excellent communication and customer care skills, a degree level qualification in Building Surveying, Construction, Engineering or Equivalent Trade, and Chartered Membership of a relevant body (i.e. RICS, CIOB, RIBA, CABE, CIBSE, MIFire, ICWCI), the ideal candidate will have substantial knowledge and experience of:

• Building surveying and managing/inspecting fire safety works/measures in residential buildings

• Current building-related legislation including managing Health & Safety with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations

• Different construction methods and retrofitting methods 

• Contract management and performance-led activities

• Working with High Rise Residential Buildings

A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is also required for this role.
