Background Information

Forestry & Land Scotland (FLS) is a Scottish Government agency, formed in April 2019. We work across Scotland in a broad range of roles looking after Scotland’s National Forests and Land for the benefit of all.

The Buildings team comprises Building Surveyors covering geographical areas – North, South, East and West. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Building Surveyor to join our team serving the east and central belt of Scotland area.

You will be working within a team of professional Building Surveyors and report directly to the Buildings and Capital Works Manager.

Job description

As Building Surveyor, you will be responsible for the delivery of professional property services across your areas to support a wide range of built assets; from operational buildings, houses, depots, farms to visitor centres. You will have responsibility, including budgetary, to plan, implement and monitor programmes of work to a high standard ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, Health and Safety legislation and agency standards.

The role is based in Perth, Dunkeld or the Central Belt, Perth (PH1 3EN), Dunkeld (PH8 0JR), West Calder (EH55 8PN), Edinburgh (EH12 7AT).

Responsibilities

Responsible for the delivery of professional property maintenance services through the most cost effective and efficient methods.

Plan, implement and monitor programmes of work to a high standard and agreed budgets, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations (including Health and Safety legislation) and agency guidance.

Act as Contractor Framework Manager.

Act as the Project Manager on larger and more complex projects, which includes responsibility for the appointment and performance management of consultants on these projects.

Develop and maintain cost plans for planned maintenance programmes and capital works and be responsible for financial reporting to the Cost Centre Manager.

Improve the financial and environmental sustainability of our buildings.

Provide professional technical support to the Regional Managers on matters pertaining to the built estate.
