Matthews & Son LLP are recruiting to our Building Surveying team primarily based out of our London office located in the depths of Fitzrovia and close to the hubbub of Soho and the West End.

You will be an experienced Building Surveyor capable of managing and administrating your own workload, blending autonomous and team working.  Salary and terms will be commensurate to your experience and what you can add to the firm.

Ideally, we are seeking candidates who are Chartered Building Surveyors, this does not restrict those who are not Chartered or have gone down a different professional route.  You must have the experience and well-rounded knowledge to be able to run projects independently and provide clients with reasoned advice and a high level of attentive service.

The properties and projects you will be working on will mainly be in Central London, although there may be instances of work outside of London and via our satellite offices and Partners based elsewhere in the UK.  Our clients’ portfolios often contain Listed Buildings and range from residential properties, apartment accommodation both purpose built and converted blocks, commercial office and retail buildings of varying construction and ages, plus ecclesiastical and meeting hall type premises.

You will be competent in traditional Building Surveying activity such as but not limited to;

  • Party Wall matters for both building and adjoining owners.
  • Dilapidations process and negotiations
  • Licence to Alter matters and understanding of lease clauses, requirements and covenants
  • Obtaining and submitting applications for Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent
  • Defect diagnosis and identification
  • Preacquisition inspections, advice and reports
  • Maintenance planning and budgeting, and insurance reinstatement cost assessments
  • Design and specification of works predominantly to existing built assets, including repair, refurbishment, alteration and fitout works.
  • Principal Designer services
  • Contract Administration with familiarity of the full suite of JCT and NEC contracts

You will have excellent interpersonal skills and you will be able to relate to and communicate clearly and effectively with fellow professionals, contractors and trades operatives, clients, building occupiers and third parties alike, offering advice, guidance and instruction as required.  You will be expected to climb ladders and access scaffolding, and where applicable use mobile access systems for inspections.  You will be expected to produce you own reports, and be competent with Microsoft Office products.  Ability to generate and manipulate CAD files and produce drawings will be required.

Normally the working day will be Monday to Friday, with contracted hours being 37.5 per week (net of lunch etc).  You may be required to undertake lone working, and occasional weekend and out of hours works where the nature of the project dictates and similarly there may need to be flexibility around the hours worked.  In return you can expect 25 days per annum paid leave in addition to bank holidays, supported CPD and RICS fees, together with enrolment in the company pension scheme.

We are an established niche firm proudly serving our existing client base and new clients alike.

We pride ourselves on being big enough to know, and small enough to care, do you? If so please send your CV together with existing notice period or availability to Paul Dawson via e-mail to pmd@matthewsandson.co.uk please ensure that you quote Building Surveyor London in your e-mail subject line.
