Your new organisation
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is a unitary authority based in the heart of the town centre. Your new role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Planning Policy Team at Southend as a Graduate Planner in a full-time role, initially on a 1-year fixed term basis. You will be joining a highly performing Planning Service with a strong track record of delivering high profile projects.

From the outset the successful candidate will be focused on delivering the Council's Community Infrastructure Levy, which secures funding to provide infrastructure for the community as new development takes place but will also input into the wider work of the Planning Policy and Development Management Teams.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will need to have good attention to detail and excellent organisational and communication skills. You need to be able to work on your own initiative, be numerate and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages. You will engage effectively across all levels and be able to work to deadlines, carrying out your duties accurately at speed, establishing good relationships with customers and other stakeholders. This role will suit an individual who has a can-do attitude, is keen to learn and is seeking a career in local government planning. Knowledge of planning system, legislation and procedures are desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.

This role would suit graduates from a wide range of subjects, particularly individuals with a genuine interest in areas such as the built environment, planning, sustainability, the law and local government.
