The role

An independent chartered surveying firm started by two ex directors from a top UK consultancy over 10 years ago, this business has started with two knowledgeable, experienced and commercially minded partners, and has grown to a group of 20, with a clearly defined business strategy focusing on high quality, high margin work, with private sector commercial clients consisting of landlords, investors, management companies and the odd home owner.

The core workload for this business, and of a senior building surveyor at this company, is a 60:40 split of professional and project focused building surveying. Working on properties such as private residential blocks, heritage buildings, commercial office space, retail units and more, a senior building surveyor will tackle specific services as follows:

  • Building Surveys and Defects Analysis
  • Acting as Expert Witness
  • Planned and Preventative Maintenance
  • Schedules of Condition
  • Fire Risk Assessments and Disability Access Audits/Statements
  • Feasibility Studies and Technical Report
  • Party wall matters

Along with the technical elements above, there will be a range of project focused services as follows:

  • Feasibility Studies
  • Contract Administration
  • Employers Agent
  • Design and Build Project Management
  • Building Refurbishment Project Management
  • Building Repair and Maintenance Project Management

  • £45-55K per annum (depending on chartered status, experience at senior level and existing salary)

The responsibilities

Your responsibilities as a senior building surveyor will include:

  • Managing your own client portfolio, maintaining relationships and creating added value and new revenue through consultative advice
  • Delivery of project and professional work to a high standard, managing expectations and ensuring excellent client service
  • Managing and mentoring a small team of junior surveyors, delegating tasks and instructions suitable to their levels of competency and signing off on work.
  • Developing new business, answering enquiries and securing future instructions and agreements
