An outstanding opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our Estates Department and make a genuine difference to the services we provide.

We are looking for a self-motivated Quantity Surveyor able to work under their own motivation with excellent management and technical skills to work for this prestigious charity.

The Estates Department is the heart of conservation at English Heritage. We keep our sites safe, accessible and operational for over 10 million visitors a year and we conserve our historic buildings, monuments and landscapes for the nation and for future generations. We have the necessary professional construction expertise to develop and deliver conservation maintenance and enhancement projects to the highest standards and in accordance with established technical policy, industry standards and specialist guidance. The Department provides strategic advice and guidance and leadership across the Charity for health and safety management, fire prevention, security management and emergency planning.

As a Quantity Surveyor with client side experience of working on conservation, refurbishment, maintenance and repair projects you will be providing quantity surveying support to the Estates and National Project teams for a wide range of activities from planned maintenance to major projects.

Under guidance from the Senior QS and working with the estate management team you will gain experience in conservation repair and maintenance projects carried out on the iconic historic monuments, buildings and places English Heritage cares for. You will also gain commercial experience from the business improvements, procurements and projects you'll be supporting aimed at meeting our sustainable conservation asset management plan, increasing income and improving value for money.

As Quantity Surveyor, you will work closely with the Senior Quantity Surveyor, Senior Architect and Historic Buildings Surveyors in the Building Conservation Team. Together we will provide advice and guidance on all matters relating to consultancy services, construction, estates specific procurement activities and contracts.

A key part of the role will be to put in place processes and tools supported by coaching, training and guidance that empowers our people and external Quantity Surveyors to deliver quantity surveying effectively, improve financial performance and achieve kudos of the quantity surveying service we provide. It is essential that you proactively obtain the required knowledge and experience gained to achieve this.

You will be a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), have a degree or final diploma in quantity surveying with relevant knowledge and experience of economic, legal, technical and managerial quantity surveying skills and be skilled in commercial negotiations.
