Location: Raby Estate Office, Uppington, Shropshire

Department: Shropshire Estate   

Employment Basis: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: Competitive dependant on experience

Raby Estates have an exciting position for an enthusiastic RICS rural qualified and experienced Land Agent. Raby is an extensive landed estate with diversified interests in Co Durham and Shropshire. The Shropshire Estate extends to approximately 6500 acres lying between Shrewsbury and Telford and comprises a let agricultural and large residential portfolio. There is also a substantial in hand farming and forestry operation. There are numerous property development opportunities which are yet to be realised. Delivery on these opportunities is a priority for this role.

What you’ll be doing

As Land Agent for the Estate, you will be expected to carry out all the typical duties of a Resident Land Agent. It will not be a requirement to live on the Estate, but a house could be made available if required.

The successful candidate will report directly to the CEO/owners and work alongside other senior colleagues based in Co Durham. There will also be an opportunity to become involved with wider Estate strategy and policy initiatives around carbon, environment and agricultural transition.

Overview of Raby Estates

Raby Castle near Staindrop has been the home of the Vane family for generations and is open to visitors. Lord and Lady Barnard seek to develop the Castle and grounds so that it becomes one of the foremost visitor attractions in the North. 

The Raby Estate comprises substantial landholdings and trading operations including in-house farms, let farms and residential property, and sporting enterprises. We also have visitor attractions at Raby Castle, High Force Hotel and Waterfalls in Upper Teesdale and The Wrekin in Shropshire.

Raby recently embarked upon a new business strategy which provides for investment and growth across all of its operations. The person appointed to this role will be a key member of the senior management team charged with delivering on business plan objectives.

The Raby Estate comprises landholdings and trading operations that are owned by Lord Barnard and his family. Raby Estate business operations include in-house farms, let farms and residential property, visitor attractions and sporting enterprises across 3 estates in Co Durham and Shropshire.

The Raby (Co Durham) estates comprise Upper Teesdale Estate (35,000 acres or thereabouts) and the Raby Estate (20,000 acres or thereabouts) around Raby Castle near Staindrop. The Durham estates hold 136 let farms and 265 residential properties. There is also an extensive area of moorland in Upper Teesdale which is managed for grouse shooting. A driven pheasant shoot around Raby Castle is also managed in hand.

Raby Estates has recently rolled out a comprehensive 5 year business plan which places greater emphasis on property development, leisure and tourism activity and climate change/environmental initiatives. More resources are also to be directed towards safeguarding core estate property, heritage assets and collections.
