Building Works Manager - University of Plymouth - Permanent Role

Hays are working in partnership with the University of Plymouth who are seeking a Building Works Manager to join them in a key permanent position. You'll be joining an employer of choice in the region, and a leader in the provision of specialist higher education located in the heart of the Southwest.
Your new role
As a Building Works Manager, you will join the universities operational maintenance team, located on-campus in Plymouth. Your role will be varied and diverse in nature, you'll be the first port of call for any building fabric issue, and will need to diagnose defects before offering recommendations and engaging with specialist contractors to supervise the repair process. Further to this you may be involved in small civil works which could include implementation or repair of pathways, tracks and small roadways. You will use your specialist knowledge to achieve excellent value for money, ensuring that contractors are delivering work to the required standard, liaising and advising building users and managers internally at all stages.
What you'll need to succeed
In order to succeed in this post you'll need to have an excellent understanding of buildings and minor construction works as well as health & safety. Ideally you'll have a relevant City & Guilds or BTEC certification however you may also be time served, and have a longer term background within groundworks, bricklaying, carpentry or roofing. You may be looking to further your career within Building Surveying, or equally may be looking to move onto the client-side from the contracting sector.

The role will require on-site working for most of the time, however home working will be available when appropriate. You'll receive a starting salary of £34,303 per year, however you'll receive an additional £2,327 per year to be 'on call' for one week in every five, thus increasing your salary to £36,631.
Joining an Estates & Facilities team at the University means that if desired, you will be able to further your career into the Building Surveying, Facilities Management or Project Management teams moving forwards.
