My client is a renowned global consultancy firm whose services cover the gamut of the build environment and have a reputation for their involvement in landmark projects. The upturning market has prompted them to seek additional staff for their project management buildings team.

Are you a skilled and diligent Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager with data centre experience looking for a strategic career move? Do you want to be involved in larger, technical projects that look great on your CV? The chosen candidate will be the day-to-day project manager and contract administrator on a £3-10M building project; or assistant project manager on larger building projects up to a value of c.£50m.

The candidate could be ambitious as there are excellent opportunities to progress within this corporate setting. Performance based bonuses generously awarded.

Person Specification

  • Obtained or approaching (within 6-12m) professional qualification in project management or a construction industry related discipline
  • Data centre projects beneficial
  • Experience of delivering projects from a client project management perspective. Value of projects should be at least £3M construction cost. Ideally a mix of project experience in both refurbishment & new build.
  • Experience of administering building construction contracts
  • Self motivated
  • Takes action and gets involved
  • Very good communicator (verbal, written and listening)
  • Good client facing skills

Key competencies/ responsibilities

- People Skills

  • Able to identify differences and resolve conflicts or assist in resolving conflicts
  • Able to identify stakeholders, determine requirements and expectations and manage their influence on the project
  • Maintains good communications with clients, keeping them regularly appraised of the progress of their projects.
  • Able to report progress and answer questions accordingly and write monthly reports
  • Ensures line manager is kept informed about key issues


Project Delivery

- Programme

  • Agrees the overall project programme in conjunction with client and in-house planners
  • Sets the programme for each major phase of work

- Design

  • Manages design team to deliver correct elements to programme
  • Ensures that the design meets the clients requirements
  • Escalates issues as appropriate

- Cost

  • Manages the processes involved in estimating, budgeting, and controlling costs
  • Manages the change control procedure

- Construction

  • Oversees the progress of the Contractor and that he delivers to programme
  • Takes action to resolve problems
  • Escalates issues as appropriate

- Handover

  • Prepares the handover plan, communicates this to the client
  • Manages the handover of completed facilities to clients

- Other

Maintains a register that allows issues to be easily communicated to others. Authors monthly client reports identifying key issues, matters for resolution and provides a clear and effective mechanism for exception reporting.

Contracts/ compliance

  • Procures the design team in accordance with client requirements
  • Developing and managing the team
  • Ensures the project team works in accordance with all regulatory standards
  • Manages the procurement process
  • Administers the construction and professional services contracts on behalf of the client
  • Manages procedures to deliver the required quality at all stages of the project
  • Facilitates risk workshops, manages the risk register and ensures actions are closed out
