We are seeking an exceptional committed individual to join us as a Building Surveyor. This role is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the development of professional property management.

The Building Surveyor’s will play a key role in supporting the development and operation of a professional property management service to include the effective management of building maintenance, investment and development works to the Council’s operational and non-operational housing property portfolio. The post holder will carry out all building surveyor functions across all Council Housing Investment and Development programmes in ensuring the Council delivers its statutory obligations as a landlord.

This will include but not limited to contract procurement, building pathology, condition surveys, provision of technical guidance on building works, drafting building work specification, project management, handling legal repair cases and the management of Asbestos in domestic buildings.

Ideally, the successful candidate will have the Proficiency Certificate in P405(Management of Asbestos in Buildings) or have a desire to undertake this training that would be funded by Thurrock Council.

In addition, the successful candidate should have a keen interest in innovative renewable energy solutions, as a key aspect of the role will be to champion the Council’s current and future sustainable/renewable energy development programmes. This will include identifying suitable /adaptable energy services, commissioning and managing project feasibility and completing project grant or fund sourcing where applicable.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual of who is able to self-manage their time while also working collectively with other Housing services team to improve the service delivery to our residents whilst also enhancing the skill base within their team.

You must have the desire to continuously improve your personal development and assist other team members to in improving theirs.

The projects that Thurrock Council delivery year on year will give surveyors unique opportunities to work on a diverse portfolio and also give opportunities to get involved in developing and delivering complex project from a client side.

The nature of the role means that the applicants must be confident, proactive and have the ability to engage with a wide-ranging audience whilst also being technically proficient in the role in respect to building management.

You must have the applicable qualifications in respect to building surveying and /or management and possess a proven record of accomplishments in this regard.

Successful candidates will be supported in additional training and qualifications, including APC candidates or those studying at university. Thurrock Council has access to both internal and external resources that will be able to support candidates and give them the exposure and opportunity to progress their careers.

Due to the wide spread of assets across Thurrock Borough, it is essential that the successful candidate has access to a vehicle that is insured and can be used for work purposes.

It is for these that we are seeking two experienced Building Surveyor’s to join the Technical Services Team within the Housing Department.
