Housing is a top priority for Hackney, ensuring that we deliver a high quality, customer focussed repairs service across our 30,000 homes is paramount. We have recently remodelled our repairs service to match our aspirations and are now looking for senior managers who can take us on the next stage of our improvement journey.

The service innovations we are putting in place will encourage joined up working. We need people who can build effective working relationships across the Council, keen to create partnerships with other service areas and agencies, working collaboratively to improve efficiency and performance.

We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor who can support us in the delivery of an efficient repairs service. You will prepare cost estimates, cost plans and cash flow profiles for complex projects and programmes, by working out quantities and costs of materials, time and labour.

With a significant work volume planned for the next five years we need the best possible quantity surveyors to help drive and manage our delivery of an array of different work-streams. The role will require you to produce and evaluate tender and contract documentation for complex projects and programmes and make recommendations for contract awards. With a strong focus on value for money, you will help us promote improvements in contract delivery through benchmarking, improved processes and robust contract negotiations.

You should have significant experience of working in building contract management, understand building regulations and QS codes of practice. We need someone with an impressive track record of negotiating contracts, where necessary challenging underperformance, to successfully manage complex projects.

To thrive in this role, you should be determined to secure the best outcomes for our residents and bring a wealth of technical knowledge.

You must have a relevant technical professional qualification, membership of a professional institute in an appropriate discipline, or experience. A Chartered Quantity Surveyor on Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyor (RICS), Chartered Membership on CIOB - The Chartered Institute of Building, Chartered Membership on ICE - Institute of Civil Engineers or other accredited qualification is desirable.

Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from the 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.

If you want to work in a place where you can represent our values so we achieve the best for our residents, please click on the apply button below.

When applying, it is essential that you include a supporting statement, addressing how your skills, knowledge and experience meet all aspects of the post, as indicated in the job description and person specification. We do not accept CV’s.

The recruitment process is anonymous. Please ensure that you do not include your name on any of your supporting documents or on the file attachments.

Closing date for applications: 3 July 2022.

Interview date: TBC.

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included, and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status.
