Job Title: Building Surveyor/Property Manager
Reports To: Estate Manager
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm
Contract: Permanent
The Althorp Estate
The Althorp Estate extends to c.13,500 acres and comprises three main Estates:
Althorp, Northamptonshire 8,500 acres North Creake, North Norfolk 2,900 acres Wormleighton, Warwickshire 2,150 acres
The Estate’s land and property-based enterprises include residential and commercial property, planning and development, farming, forestry and shooting amongst others. It contains 240 residential properties, many of which are listed and require sympathetic, quality refurbishments on a cyclical basis. Job Purpose
The Building Surveyor will lead a variety of projects from inception through to completion, ensuring the highest standards are achieved. They will be dedicated to the sympathetic upkeep and restoration of the historical nature of our properties – including a prestigious country home.
In addition to managing projects, the individual will also be at the forefront of Althorp Estate’s drive towards excellence, contributing to standards and processes including:
- Sustainability
- Supply chain evaluation, benchmarking and management
- Definition and implementation of estate wide key performance indicators
- Embedding a new CAFM system, ensuring consistently positive customer experience
- To continuously challenge existing processes and systems, using creativity and innovation to create best practice policies and procedures
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and management of in-house direct labour force, comprising 5 direct reports Managing projects throughout their lifecycle, including: Communication with all project stakeholders from local authorities, Historic England and key estate personnel to customers Appointment of external consultants Design management Planning Preparation of specifications Tendering, appointment and management of contractor, including contract administration Financial management
Essential Experience and Attributes
- Building Surveying degree Strong understanding of, and passion for, property and construction A good knowledge of the Construction Design Management 2015 Regulations Excellent verbal and written communication skills Must be self-motivated and flexible relative to work assignments Minimum 5 years’ building surveying/project management experience Experience of budget management, financial control and delivering cost-efficiency Working knowledge of building management, systems maintenance and repair projects
