Deputy Director of Assets

Permanent - Full Time

Salary £89,242 £98,374 (Relocation expenses payable in line with our policy)

Be part of Wolverhampton - a diverse and inclusive city, packed with passion, pride and endless potential.

At City of Wolverhampton Council, we’re embarking on the next phase of our journey of transformation and change, ensuring we deliver on the ‘Our City: Our Plan’ priorities and Vision for 2030.

We’re looking for a confident and inspirational leader to engage with communities, understand their needs and put residents at the heart of everything we do; embracing our ‘One Council’ approach and help to deliver our aspiration that Wulfrunians live longer and healthier lives.

As an organisation committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, we are looking to attract a broad range of applicants from all protected characteristics and especially welcome applications from under-represented groups.

This is an exciting time for you as a strategic problem-solver to join our senior leadership team. To meet the challenges we face as a city and council, the senior leadership team has been aligned to three strategic themes – Organisation, Communities & Place and Families.

We are looking for someone to fill the role of Deputy Director of Assets and work collaboratively and creatively with our assets to support businesses, residents and visitors.

The post holder will lead the strategic agenda for change and transformation across a wide range of services including Asset Management and Estate Management, plus the full breadth of the Council’s land, property portfolio and facilities management service.

The key to success will be your ability to draw the best from others, a keen eye for quality across a diverse portfolio of asset management, and to drive momentum behind long-term and complex strategic priorities.

The post holder will further develop the strategic vision relating to the Council’s Assets, which they will then deliver through great leadership and effective management with the aim of ensuring the Council’s Asset portfolio meets the inclusive needs of employees, customers, Councillors, stakeholders, partners and communities.

The development of the vision and its implementation will require the post holder to effectively engage and work closely with communities, stakeholders and partners, to ensure the Council’s Asset portfolio supports the ‘Our City: Our Plan’ agenda to create stronger and more sustainable communities.

Service Specific Accountabilities

As a member of the Council’s Senior Management Group, the post holder will be required to be accountable for services allocated by the Deputy Chief Executive, currently:

  • Asset Management (the high-level strategic plan for retention, rationalisation and repurposing of our circa 1,900 buildings and land, alongside ensuring the maintenance of our asses and compliance from all aspects of health and safety)
  • Estates Management (managing the buildings we lease in or out to others, including tenant management, acquisitions, disposals etc)
  • Facilities Management (catering and cleaning plus caretaking, opening/closing and operational support for running the buildings we are responsible for)

City of Wolverhampton Council is committed to equal opportunities and welcomes your application irrespective of your gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, age, religion or belief.

The post will require an enhanced DBS check prior to appointment.

For further information about the post or an informal discussion, please contact Mark Taylor, Deputy Chief Executive, on 01902 556609.

Closing date:  Sunday 11 December 2022 (midnight)
