ABOUT US

The Royal Agricultural University is a university which prides itself on our long history and tradition but which is firmly setting its sights on the future. Since the beginning when we were founded in 1845, we have been outward-looking with a spirit of innovation, resilience and service demonstrated through our pioneering advances in farming productivity and across the land-based industries.

The impact of RAU graduates since its foundation has been extraordinary, not just in the UK but globally. Our academics have a long tradition of providing practical solutions to real world problems through their applied research and expertise in knowledge exchange. We take very seriously our responsibility in the coming years to lead and to innovate in these areas and ensure that our graduates can navigate the great challenges ahead.

ABOUT THE POSTS

We are looking for two outstanding individuals to join us as Head of Subject to provide academic leadership in disciplines associated with:

  • Agricultural Sciences and Practice
  • Land and Property Management

This is an exciting opportunity to play a major role in our ambitious plans for the future development of the University. The Head of Subject is a pivotal leadership role to drive a culture of academic high performance – leading the continual improvement of the learning experience of our students, broadening and diversifying the reach of our teaching portfolio, and nurturing excellence in our research and knowledge exchange activity through the effective line management of academic staff in the subject area.

  • The Agricultural Sciences and Practice subject area includes Agriculture, Equine, Livestock and Environmental Science incorporating our REF research themes of Sustainable and Regenerative Agriculture, Equine Science, Livestock Health and Welfare.
  • The Land and Property Management subject area includes Land, Property, Food Supply Chain, Business and Heritage Management incorporating our REF research themes of Food Policy, Quality and Security and Sustaining the Rural Economy and Landscape.

Ideally, you will be a role model in learning and teaching innovation in higher education with a strong commitment to advanced scholarship, and have an empowering leadership style to support and guide individual academic staff on the effectiveness of their teaching, professional development and scholarly activity. You will be a team player with a quality-eye on improving standards, and have a thorough understanding of curriculum design, modular systems and quality assurance monitoring frameworks in higher education. You will bring energy and dynamism to the role and be a passionate advocate, internally and externally, for your subject and for the University.
