This is a 2-year fixed term with a possibility of extension pending funding approval.

Benefits and Allowances

We offer a 35-hour working week with the option to earn flexi-time and approximately 6 weeks of paid holiday depending on your public service experience.

Role Purpose

The building control surveyor’s role within the Fire Safety Team will utilise your excellent knowledge and experience of building regulation applications and inspection of building work, cladding, and other dangerous materials to ensure compliance with the Fire Safety and Building Safety Act. You will actively be involved in monitoring and reporting to senior management.

The multi-disciplinary Fire Safety Team works with the Department of Levelling up Housing & Communities, the London Fire Brigade, the London Government Agency, freeholders, developers, and managing agents to determine the External Wall Systems of all private blocks over 18m and soon from 11m (awaiting Government instruction), to identify materials and buildings of concern within Tower Hamlets and work to remediate. The team monitors the pace of remediation and works towards enforcement action when appropriate.

We require the expertise of the Principal Building Control Surveyor, Building Control Surveyor, to join the team and help us deliver safer homes for our residents. We are relying on your knowledge of cladding systems, the spread of flame criteria, and combustibility requirements, reviewing fire engineers’ reports, EWS1 forms, and fire test reports.
