Beach Baker is delighted to be instructed on behalf of a long-established award winning independent house building company to recruit an experienced Strategic Land Manager.

The role

The role will be varied, and you will manage all aspects of strategic land to ensure new land opportunities are secured and existing committed sites are promoted to deliver the strategic land pipeline for the business.

You will work as part of a small dedicated Land and Planning team in a wider company size of c. 30 professionals.

The main duties of the role will include:

  • Identify new development opportunities through statutory development plans, housing land audits, liaising with agents and utilising an existing contact base
  • Negotiate terms and securing sites, including initial due diligence, formulating offers, and managing the legal process
  • Oversee the promotion of the strategic land bank, appointing & managing external consultants, liaising with technical, commercial and sales teams internally
  • Monitor the strategic land portfolio, with national and local planning policy guidelines
  • Assist in preparing pre application, planning applications and appeals if necessary
  • Co-ordinate the viability process and agree land values with owners/agents in exercising option agreements

Experience

You will ideally be professionally RICS, or RTPI qualified, have a full driving licence and experience working for a developer or property development agency team.

  • An excellent understanding of the planning system and planning policy at both local and national level
  • Familiarity with all legal and contractual aspects of the land process
  • A proven track record in successfully promoting land through the planning system
  • Either qualified to degree level in a relevant subject such as Town Planning or Real Estate
  • Sound geographical knowledge of the South West patch
  • Articulate, clear and credible, and able to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional negotiating and influencing skills; a confident and professional networker
  • An extensive contact base
