A bit about the role...
Working in a team with Martin Howard, Head of Valuation and Appraisals, the Manager – Valuation and Appraisals will play a critical role in providing specialist technical advice to colleagues working to deliver housing and regeneration projects across England. You will be joining our small but highly skilled team, who are committed to making positive change in how valuation and appraisal work is undertaken as part of the delivery process.

Martin is dedicated to delivering a first-class customer service, resolving differences of opinion informally wherever possible, taking an innovative and creative approach to potentially complex valuation and appraisal issues. Martin believes in working in a collaborative/flexible way to foster good decision making and problem solving within their team.

This is a rare chance to shape the future of valuation and appraisal activity in a fast growing, national organisation with real social purpose. Working with key stakeholders and a professional team you will ensure efficient, consistent and effective resolution of valuation and appraisal issues and have the opportunity to support the creation of high quality homes and places whilst achieving value for money for the tax payer.

The role will support the design and delivery of key strategic projects across England. There are some ambitious projects to get involved with and this is an excellent opportunity to balance day to day delivery whilst bringing innovative solutions to the Homes England offering.

A bit about you…

Whilst our day job is to deliver first class customer service to colleagues and wider stakeholders delivering projects, you will be used to "spinning several plates" at once and will always be looking for ways to improve and innovate.

Educated to degree level and with a recognised professional qualification (MRICS) you will desirably be a RICS Registered Valuer or be eligible to become one and will possess a strong understanding of the end to end development process including strategies for de-risking, disposal and onward monitoring in a valuation context and have the knowledge and experience of the requirements and application of the RICS Red Book.

You'll be comfortable supporting the Head of Valuation and Appraisals with complex issues, aiming to devise solutions that secure delivery whilst maintaining value for money. You will be proficient in development appraisal techniques utilising Microsoft Excel and industry standard software packages such as Argus Developer.

Delivering on a mission as bold as ours isn’t always easy. You will strong communication skills and will be resilient and comfortable managing and producing briefings for internal and external stakeholders at a senior level and your discussions will always be shaped by a good understanding of the commercial and operational impact of what we do as a technical team. You will enjoy working in an innovative, fun and engaging way and be able to negotiate and persuade.

As an experienced surveying professional you’ll understand how to manage colleagues and be able to demonstrate you can work with others as part of a team in a collaborative, inclusive way.

Who are we?
Homes England, the government’s housing and regeneration agency, plays a central role in tackling the housing challenges the country now faces. We have the appetite, influence, expertise and resource to drive positive market change, and our mission is to ensure more homes are built in areas of greatest need, improve affordability and create a sustainable housing market.

Following the publication of the government’s Levelling Up White Paper, Homes England has also been tasked with a core role in spearheading regeneration, partnering with places to reduce economic disparity, empower local leaders and create equal opportunities across the country to ensure communities reach their full potential.

What we offer...
As well as a competitive salary and 33 days annual leave, we are committed to hybrid working. We’ll support you, wherever possible, so that you don’t miss out on what matters to you.

If you ever need a bit of extra help, we have a great employee assistance programme, financial wellbeing support and access to many great discounts with leading high street names.

Our range of network groups are also there to support you to be yourself at work and play a key role in helping shape our future.

If you are a member of a professional body, we’ll pay for your membership and once you get your digital kit, you’ll be good to go.

Homes England are a geographically diverse community. We were all working from home during the pandemic and have since moved to a hybrid model, moving back into our office environments and utilising our space and time together in the most conducive way.

We would encourage all applicants to apply as soon as possible as we may close vacancies early should we receive a high number of applications.

We also encourage you to apply using the full application option as opposed to quick apply, this is especially important if you would like to indicate to us that you would like to be considered under the disability confident scheme.

If your application is shortlisted to interview we will require you to provide proof of your right to work in the UK at that stage.

Company

Homes England is the new national housing agency, recently launched to play a major role in fixing the housing market and enabling delivery of homes that our country needs.

Homes England brings together land, money, expertise, and planning & compulsory purchase powers, with a clear remit to facilitate delivery of sufficient new homes, where they are most needed, to deliver a sustained improvement in affordability.  We work locally in individual communities to help meet local priorities.

We invest mostly in building new homes, but also in creating employment floor space and other community facilities, in cities, towns and villages across the country. The homes we fund include affordable homes for rent and sale, and homes for rent or sale at market prices. Our investment helps build around half of all new homes built in England each year. It also helps increase local growth by creating jobs and supporting businesses.

We own public land, which we sell to house builders and others. This is one of the ways in which we overcome barriers to development and help increase the speed with which house builders can build new homes.

Homes England is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government.

Homes England was launched by the Secretary of State on 11 January 2018. Homes England is the trading name of Homes and Communities Agency. To find out more about what we do please visit: www.gov.uk/government/organisations/homes-England.
