A bit about the role...

Working in a team with Ross Nicolson our Head of Estates Management and other team members, the Estate Manager will play a critical role in leading on the estate management of assigned assets in Homes England’s extensive and diverse land portfolio. The Estate Manager is a technical role and provides expert advice on estate management, implements best practice, identifies risk and manage compliance with legal, and health & safety requirements, ensuring Homes England meets its statutory and legal obligations.

You will be joining our highly skilled and experienced team which forms part of the larger national Estates Management Team of 24 people, who are committed to making positive change in how the Agency’s assets are managed and ensure a safe and compliant estate.

Ross is dedicated to delivering a first-class customer service, resolving issues informally wherever possible, and taking an innovative and creative approach to estate management issues. He believes in working in a collaborative/flexible way to foster good decision making and problem solving within the team.

This is a rare chance to shape the future of estate management in a fast growing, national organisation. Working with key stakeholders and a professional estate management team you will ensure efficient, consistent, and effective resolution of management issues and have the opportunity to help create an agile and proactive estate management function.

You will be involved at all stages of the development process from acquisition through to disposal. This will include contribution at pre acquisition stage, peer assessment and contribution at approval stages.

The role will support the design and delivery of key strategic projects around the Agency’s asset portfolio. There are some exciting projects to get involved with and this is an excellent opportunity to balance day to day delivery whilst bringing innovative solutions to the estate management offering.

A bit about you…

Whilst our day job is to deliver a high quality and consistent service to our stakeholders on estate management, you will be used to "spinning several plates" at once and will always be looking for ways to improve performance and innovate.

Educated to a relevant surveying degree level and, ideally, with a recognised professional qualification (e.g. RICS), you will be experienced in commercial and/or rural estate management and will be comfortable supporting the Acquisition, Delivery and Disposal Teams in resolving complex estate management issues. The aim is to deliver a professional estate service to the Homes England vacant and tenanted land and property portfolio which includes high risk sites, brownfield, industrial, commercial, agricultural land, and other green estates.

You will be able to demonstrate a good understanding, supported by evidence of continued professional development of Health and Safety legislation relating to Estate Management and a qualification from a professional body such as NEBOSH or IOSH would be advantageous for this position.

Proficient in delivering professional estate management service across a diverse range of sites located within a wide geographical area, you will possess the excellent communication skills required to confidently lead on estate management requirements, working alongside internal teams and external stakeholders from site acquisition through to disposal and you’ll understand how to manage a busy workload whilst demonstrating you can work with others as part of a team in a collaborative and inclusive way.

Delivering on a mission as bold as ours isn’t always easy. You will be resilient and comfortable managing stakeholders at a senior level and your discussions will always be shaped by a good understanding of the commercial and operational impact of what we do as an estate management team. You will enjoy working in an innovative, fun and engaging way and be able to negotiate and persuade.

Company

Homes England is the new national housing agency, recently launched to play a major role in fixing the housing market and enabling delivery of homes that our country needs.

Homes England brings together land, money, expertise, and planning & compulsory purchase powers, with a clear remit to facilitate delivery of sufficient new homes, where they are most needed, to deliver a sustained improvement in affordability.  We work locally in individual communities to help meet local priorities.

We invest mostly in building new homes, but also in creating employment floor space and other community facilities, in cities, towns and villages across the country. The homes we fund include affordable homes for rent and sale, and homes for rent or sale at market prices. Our investment helps build around half of all new homes built in England each year. It also helps increase local growth by creating jobs and supporting businesses.

We own public land, which we sell to house builders and others. This is one of the ways in which we overcome barriers to development and help increase the speed with which house builders can build new homes.

Homes England is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government.

Homes England was launched by the Secretary of State on 11 January 2018. Homes England is the trading name of Homes and Communities Agency. To find out more about what we do please visit: www.gov.uk/government/organisations/homes-England.
