Reporting to the Associate Director – Development, the successful individual will be responsible for advising on and delivering development projects that will unlock potential in the education estate This will include master planning, development appraisals, and the formulation of complex mixed-use schemes for school sites, in addition to working with schools to help them manage their estates more efficiently. This role will be home based, preferably in London/the South.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Appraising the potential of existing and new sites for schools, including undertaking development appraisals.

 Managing the preparation of feasibility studies, planning assessments and masterplans for the more complex sites.

 Working with the senior team to prepare outline budgets, agree development strategies, carry out planning pre-application work and in some cases, prepare planning applications, secure planning permission and procure development partners.

 Considering all creative options for alternative use of parts of school buildings/sites.

 Working with the Property/Transactions Team to manage the disposal of land, to ensure best value achieved.

 Providing general estate management advice to schools, LAs and other responsible bodies.

 Building relationships with all key stakeholders, both internally and externally and understand the education landscape in this context.

 Maximising the level of cross-subsidy from projects whilst ensuring commercial and technical risks are carefully managed.

 Preparation of investment committee reports seeking decisions, tracking progress and managing risks of projects.

KEY SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

 Qualified Chartered Surveyor (MRICS/FRICS)

 Demonstrable commercial awareness of the property market, market norms and best practice.

 Experience in undertaking development appraisals, including building appraisal models in MS Excel and Argus developer

 An understanding of the range of deal structures available to deliver schemes

 Appreciation of the drivers impacting developer’s decision making as well as our likely client base.

 A basic salary of up to £70,000 depending on experience

 25 days annual leave increasing with service up to 28 days plus statutory holidays
