A bit about the role...

If you are passionate about making a difference in housing, then come and join our recently established Sustainability Team. We have a role available to work alongside dedicated and experienced colleagues who are committed to creating sustainable homes and places.

This is a rare chance to shape the future sustainability agenda within the agency and work at pace in a national organisation with real social purpose. Working with key stakeholders and other professional colleagues you will be able to bring your passion for sustainable homes and create a legacy across the country.

The role will be responsible for providing a technical advisory service and facilitation on subjects such as MMC, Whole Life Carbon, relevant Building Regulations and horizon scanning on new technological developments such as hydrogen networks or the best digital tools. You will also work closely with those colleagues responsible for sustainable placemaking and long-term stewardship.

The role will support the design and delivery of housing and regeneration projects across England. There are some exciting, rewarding and ambitious projects to get involved with and this is an excellent opportunity to balance day to day delivery whilst ensuring sustainability is at the heart of our work.

The role is advertised on a full time basis but our focus is on getting the right person for the position and we will consider alternative working arrangements such as condensed or reduced hours.

A bit about you…

Whilst our day job is to deliver first class customer service to our stakeholders, you will be used to "spinning several plates" at once and will always be looking for ways to improve and innovate.

Educated to degree level or equivalent in a related built environment subject matter, you will possess strong technical knowledge about building fabric and construction techniques including understanding implications of relevant government and local authority policies that are applicable to placemaking / homes and have significant experience of implementing sustainability related performance standards within the built environment – devising processes, defining targets, commissioning and analysing technical data and desirably hold a qualification/membership of a relevant professional body.

We’re looking for passionate and committed individual who is eager to bring innovation and sustainability best practice into our everyday work. As we are aiming to create a team of complementary skills and experiences, we’d like to hear from candidates who may be experts in fields in any of the following: district heating; building innovation (modern methods of construction); building performance and regulations; sustainable technologies; climate change resilience and sustainable placemaking.

You'll be comfortable navigating the sustainability policy landscape and translating this for our internal delivery teams and their key partners and have experience of presenting to external audiences, representing an organisation’s position on sustainability.

Delivering on a mission as bold as ours isn’t always easy. You will be resilient and comfortable managing stakeholders at a senior level and your discussions will always be shaped by a good understanding of the commercial and operational impact of what we do as a Sustainability Technical Team. You will enjoy working in an innovative, fun and engaging way and be able to negotiate and persuade.

As an experienced sustainability professional, you’ll understand how to manage colleagues and be able to demonstrate you can work with others as part of a team in a collaborative, inclusive way.

Who are we?

Homes England

The Housing and Regeneration Agency

We believe that affordable, quality homes in well-designed places are key to improving people’s lives. As the government’s housing and regeneration agency, we create thriving new places and transform urban areas, combining the full breadth of our powers, expertise, land, capital and influence to bring investment to communities and get more homes built.

How? We form long-term partnerships that bridge the gap between the public and private sector to meet local needs and aspirations. We use our influence to champion the creation of sustainable homes, communities and places that are brilliantly designed for the people that live there now, and in the future. And we use our funding and support to build a more resilient, diverse and innovative housing sector, helping new entrants in the market, encouraging modern methods of construction and design, and promoting the utmost attention to building safety.

Together with our partners, we’re accelerating the pace of house building, remediation and regeneration across the country, as we seek to deliver ever more affordable homes in places people are proud to call home for generations to come.

What we offer...

As well as a competitive salary and 33 days annual leave, we are committed to hybrid working. We’ll support you, wherever possible, so that you don’t miss out on what matters to you.

If you ever need a bit of extra help, we have a great employee assistance programme, financial wellbeing support and access to many great discounts with leading high street names.

Our range of network groups are also there to support you to be yourself at work and play a key role in helping shape our future.

If you are a member of a professional body, we’ll pay for your membership and once you get your digital kit, you’ll be good to go.

Homes England are a geographically diverse community. We were all working from home during the pandemic and have since moved to a hybrid model, moving back into our office environments and utilising our space and time together in the most conducive way.

We would encourage all applicants to apply as soon as possible as we may close vacancies early should we receive a high number of applications.

We also encourage you to apply using the full application option as opposed to quick apply, this is especially important if you would like to indicate to us that you would like to be considered under the disability confident scheme.

If your application is shortlisted to interview we will require you to provide proof of your right to work in the UK at that stage.

Company

Homes England is the new national housing agency, recently launched to play a major role in fixing the housing market and enabling delivery of homes that our country needs.

Homes England brings together land, money, expertise, and planning & compulsory purchase powers, with a clear remit to facilitate delivery of sufficient new homes, where they are most needed, to deliver a sustained improvement in affordability.  We work locally in individual communities to help meet local priorities.

We invest mostly in building new homes, but also in creating employment floor space and other community facilities, in cities, towns and villages across the country. The homes we fund include affordable homes for rent and sale, and homes for rent or sale at market prices. Our investment helps build around half of all new homes built in England each year. It also helps increase local growth by creating jobs and supporting businesses.

We own public land, which we sell to house builders and others. This is one of the ways in which we overcome barriers to development and help increase the speed with which house builders can build new homes.

Homes England is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government.

Homes England was launched by the Secretary of State on 11 January 2018. Homes England is the trading name of Homes and Communities Agency. To find out more about what we do please visit: www.gov.uk/government/organisations/homes-England.
