Karbon Homes is all about providing foundations. We build, manage and look after homes for people across the North of England. And then we go further by giving them the strong foundations they need to crack on with life. Since our formation in 2017, we’ve focused on delivering our three strategic aims - to provide as many good quality homes as we can, to deliver excellent service to our customers, and to shape strong, sustainable places for our communities.
With an annual turnover in excess of £150m, and employing over 900 people, we have significant ambitions which includes delivering 4,000 new affordable homes by March 2028, with 2,200 via our Strategic Partnership with Homes England. Our footprint covers the North East of England and Yorkshire, with 30,000 homes across diverse communities. We are proud to be rated as G1/V1 by the Regulator of Social Housing, and we work hard to balance a strong business head with a strong social heart to ensure that we continue to be successful, sustainable and values-driven.
We are now looking to appoint two Non-Executive Directors to sit on our Group Board and two Independent Committee Members to sit on our Group Development Committee. Previous Board experience is not essential in any of the roles, although aligned values and a strong commitment to team working and to our social purpose are. Alongside an appreciation of good governance, we are seeking:
- Experience of strategic asset management, particularly around the decarbonisation agenda and programmes of environmental retrofit.
- Experience of real estate surveying (ideally RICS qualified) would also be an advantage.
- Development skills, knowledge and experience.
- This will ideally include the funding, design quality, legal and regulatory aspects of development programmes.
- Experience of place-based regeneration initiatives would be welcome.
Diversity is valued at Karbon Homes and we particularly welcome applications from candidates who are currently under-represented at Board level in our sector, including people from a younger age demographic, women, people from ethnic minorities within the UK, LGBTQ+ people, disabled people and those with lived experience of social housing. If this is your first application to join a Board or Committee, please don’t let that dissuade you as we are keen to attract, and most importantly support and mentor, new talent.
Remuneration:
Board Members: £11,400 per annum
Independent Committee Members: £5,500 per annum

The closing date is 9am on Monday 19th June 2023.
