A bit about the role...

Working in a specialist team with Will Adie our Head of Building Safety and other technical specialists in the Development Directorate, the Senior Technical Manager – Building Safety will play a critical role providing a technical guidance and management support service to the governments newly launched £3bn Cladding Safety Scheme. You will be joining our small but highly skilled and experienced team, who are committed to effectively implementing and communicating the Agency’s position on Building Safety and ensuring that it is embedded in agency activities.

Will Adie is dedicated to delivering a first-class customer service, resolving problems informally wherever possible, taking an innovative and creative approach to solving complex building safety issues. Will believes in working in a collaborative and flexible way to foster good decision making and problem solving.

This is a rare chance to shape the future building safety technical service in a fast growing, national organisation with real social purpose. Working with key stakeholders and internal teams you will ensure consistent and effective resolution of complex issues on the planning or execution and management of applicants’ construction contracts to fix buildings.

The role will primarily support the Cladding Safety Scheme’s Operations Team, helping to ensure progress remains on track to get buildings fixed and that the public money funding the works achieves best value. There may also be some other ambitious projects to get involved with and this is an excellent opportunity to balance day to day delivery whilst bringing innovative solutions to the Technical Services One Team offering.

A bit about you…

Whilst our day job is to deliver first class customer service to our stakeholders on technical building safety matters, you will be used to "spinning several plates" at once and will always be looking for ways to improve and innovate.

Primarily working on the Cladding Safety Scheme and, as required, other government sponsored building safety schemes, you'll be comfortable supporting several projects with identified complex cladding remediation issues, aiming to find solutions to deliver cladding remediation works to programme. You will be able to critically review technical documents to identify risks and potential issues, propose proportionate mitigation strategies and provide technical quality assurance regarding content and price.

You will already have proficient knowledge and a deep understanding of the relevant principles, emerging technical standards, and guidance for building safety compliance, along with demonstrable extensive experience within the housing, construction, and development industry.

You will hold a technical building related qualification and professional membership of a relevant construction or property profession (e.g. CABE, CIAT, CIOB, RIBA, RICS, NEBOSH fire safety, IFE or IFSM).

Delivering on a mission as bold as ours isn’t always easy. You will be resilient and comfortable managing stakeholders at a senior level and your discussions will always be shaped by a good understanding of the commercial and operational impact of what we do as a delivery focused technical specialist team. You will enjoy working in an innovative, fun and engaging way and be able to negotiate and persuade.

As an experienced and qualified senior technical manager, you’ll understand how to manage colleagues and be able to demonstrate you can work with others as part of a team in a collaborative, inclusive way.

And we use our funding and support to build a more resilient, diverse and innovative housing sector, helping new entrants in the market, encouraging modern methods of construction and design, and promoting the utmost attention to building safety.

Together with our partners, we’re accelerating the pace of house building, remediation and regeneration across the country, as we seek to deliver ever more affordable homes in places people are proud to call home for generations to come.

Homes England is the new national housing agency, recently launched to play a major role in fixing the housing market and enabling delivery of homes that our country needs.

Homes England brings together land, money, expertise, and planning & compulsory purchase powers, with a clear remit to facilitate delivery of sufficient new homes, where they are most needed, to deliver a sustained improvement in affordability.  We work locally in individual communities to help meet local priorities.

We invest mostly in building new homes, but also in creating employment floor space and other community facilities, in cities, towns and villages across the country. The homes we fund include affordable homes for rent and sale, and homes for rent or sale at market prices. Our investment helps build around half of all new homes built in England each year. It also helps increase local growth by creating jobs and supporting businesses.

We own public land, which we sell to house builders and others. This is one of the ways in which we overcome barriers to development and help increase the speed with which house builders can build new homes.

Homes England is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government.

Homes England was launched by the Secretary of State on 11 January 2018. Homes England is the trading name of Homes and Communities Agency. To find out more about what we do please visit:
