The size and missional opportunity of the Diocese of London is huge. The population of around 4.8 million is served by 400 parishes, around 100+ additional worshipping communities, around 1,000 clergy and ministers and approximately 70,000 regular worshippers. The LDF is the charitable body which facilitates the work of the Diocese; it is a significant sized charity with over 120 staff, income and expenditure of £50m and with property assets of an approximate market value of £1 billion.
Reporting to the General Secretary (Chief Executive), we are now seeking a new Director of Housing & Investment Property to lead the teams providing great housing for our clergy, safe and functional office premises for our staff, as well as generating significant income and capital from surplus housing and from our investment property portfolio. The Director of Housing & Investment Property oversees circa £1 billion, 600-unit operational housing portfolio, our operational offices, and the LDF’s £117 million mixed-use investment property fund (industrial, retail, residential, alternative, office and land investments across London and the South East), all providing the diocese with the space and income that supports and enables our mission and ministry across London. This role is also a key strategic leader contributing to Diocesan Strategy and supporting our new General Secretary, Oliver Home, in leading the LDF as an organisation and driving the strategic ambitions of the Diocese.
You will be MRICS qualified or similar, with significant experience of managing and developing diverse property portfolios that support organisational goals. You will be an accomplished team leader, able to motivate, develop and support staff to build a positive and inclusive culture which delivers exceptional results. Your approach will be marked by collaboration, humility, resilience and strong technical expertise. As a key senior leader in the diocese, you will be a practising Christian and comfortable leading in an environment driven by the mission and ministry of the Church of England. (Schedule 9, paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010 applies).
We want our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion for all to be reflected in the composition of our staff. We are particularly keen to receive applications from candidates from communities currently underrepresented at senior levels in the diocese.
