RICS – Standards and Regulation Board (SRB)
Location : SRB is a global board. Many meetings are held virtually with some in person meetings held at RICS headquarters in Parliament Square London or in Birmingham in the UK. Some global travel may be required.
Remuneration: £12,000 per annum plus expenses
Duration: Two or three year terms, renewable for three and two years respectively, dependent on performance
RICS is the world’s leading professional body in relation to setting, upholding and assuring professional standards associated with land, property, infrastructure and construction. We help to develop surveying professionals who are literally shaping the world around us, embracing the potential of new technologies and ways of working whilst responding to global agendas such as climate change. Our global footprint encompasses all of the main financial centres, with a growing presence across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Asia Pacific and North America complimenting a strong and vibrant heritage in the UK.
Reporting to Governing Council, RICS’ Standards & Regulation Board (the SRB) plays a critical role, being responsible as an independent professional regulator within RICS for leading the development of a consistent, global regulatory strategy and overseeing its operational implementation across all world regions. Members of the Board ensure that whilst the SRB operates within the wider Institution, the strategy, governance and delivery of RICS Standards and Regulation functions are at arms-length from the interests of members and show a clear commitment to upholding the public interest.
We are now looking for SRB members (both RICS members and independent members) with the vision, capability and experience to support the SRB’s development in this next phase of our rich history. Our ability to anticipate and respond to macro industry, economic and environmental change has never been more important, and we must maintain pace with the huge and important opportunities that will accompany advances in digital and data; surveyors’ skill sets are changing, and we must change with them.
We are keen to encourage applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds and experience, and applications are invited globally from both RICS professional members and independent candidates. We are particularly interested in individuals with professional and practical experience in the following areas:
- public / consumer / stakeholder insight
- diversity, equity and inclusion
- risk identification, compliance, mitigation and management
- the current and future role of technology within professional services
- international professional regulation and anti-bribery and corruption
Whilst independent members must bring significant board level experience having served in a non-executive capacity previously, the RICS Member requirement will be lighter; RICS professional members will ideally have operated in an executive capacity, with some relevant committee experience.
Regardless of experience, all candidates must bring strong interpersonal skills to the role, with a diplomatic approach and the ability to build consensus – whilst ensuring a clear understanding of the importance of maintaining SRB’s integrity and independence within the RICS.
