Turner Property Recruitment are pleased to be working, once again with a well-established and growing firm of Chartered Surveyors, Project Managers and Cost Consultants based in Central London (Blackfriars).

Our client has been established for over 20 years and have a successful track record as a leading customer-focused practice who offer a high standard of professional, comprehensive and forward-thinking services to all clients.

Our client’s Directors have a direct and personal involvement in all projects, so new starters to the business will gain vast experience from their wealth of knowledge. Our client has continued to grow year on year despite the recent industry pressures such as Covid and the current financial market.

The position available is within my client’s Building Safety and Compliance Team which is contained within the Building Consultancy Department.

The team is a new team created following the update to the Building Regulations 2010 to deliver the role of ‘Principal Designer (Building Regulations)’ to service all departments internally and also seek new opportunities externally to assist other practices and clients with the expected duties under The Building Regulations 2010.

 

In response to the regulatory changes our client considers the employment of a Building Control Surveyor to be critical to bolstering the teams competency and to provide a dedicated party to deliver the role of Principal Designer from a Building Control background as well as the current team members who approach the role from a Chartered Building Surveyors background. The department has processes set up for both Higher Risk and non Higher Risk buildings and is currently providing the role of Principal Designer – Building Regulations across the business. Focus in the immediate term can be on the delivery of projects rather than setting up the process, however improvements will always be considered to streamline the process.

 

Work will be predominately within Greater London, however some projects do occur outside of London generally within the South of England. Occasional travel outside of London will be expected on occasion.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITY:

You will report directly to your team lead/Director and assist them in delivery of their goals for both the team and wider department. You will be undertaking the majority of your work self-motivated (from instruction to billing) and expected to competently manage all stages of the instruction.

You will work on larger projects alongside senior level management staff. Your work will be derived from either enquiries from the Senior Management Team, your direct team leadership and existing clients.

You will be encouraged to generate work at this level and ability to market and network from your own skillset will be a beneficial. Activities would include items such as attendance at networking events, delivering and assisting in the delivery of CPD presentations and social media promotion (via our client’s marketing manager).

 

CANDIDATE EXPECTATIONS:

 

Candidates should be driven and a ‘self-starter’. Experience in the role or having an extensive understanding of the role of the Principal Designer -Building Regulations is essential. Other skills and attributes to project delivery would also be considered beneficial.

This position is open to experienced Building Control Surveyors. Chartered Building Surveyors who can demonstrate competence would also be considered, however they would need to understand that the role focuses on the delivery of the Principal Designer role at the current time.

My client offers flexible working, upon completion of probation (typically 3 months) candidates will be able to utilise my client’s flexible working policy which permits staff to work from home up to 2 days per week with the remainder expected to be within the office or on-site.
