As a newly formed council, there is an opportunity to harness it by bringing together experience, expertise, assets, and networks from five predecessor councils, creating a stronger position to advocate for Somerset on regional, national, and international platforms.

This is your opportunity to help build a fairer, greener, resilient, more flourishing Somerset.

Your new role

As part of your role, you will also:

  • Analyse and evaluate complex technical information to develop commercial judgements and provide professional advice.
  • Help to negotiate terms for acquisition or disposal of sites (freehold / leasehold) to ensure that best value is obtained.
  • Identify, and co-ordinate external and internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure cases and schemes are progressed effectively.
  • Outline scopes and detailed design to ensure fit with applicable rental markets.
  • Work closely with the council planning function to ensure strategic objectives are secured through site allocation decisions.
  • Develop and deliver secure planning consents.

  • Posses relevant experience and Professional qualifications - MRICS.
  • The ability to manage and work in partnership with multiple stakeholders.

You will need to be comfortable working autonomously where required, as well as within a team environment, meeting regularly in Somerset based offices.

What you'll get in return
A role with Somerset Council will offer a wide range of career-enhancing and personal employment benefits.

  • Opportunity to access market leading training and support from chartered property professionals, which can include assistance with APC or professional development.
  • Access to the LGPS pension scheme - https://www.lgpsmember.org/
