Graduates
The Valuation Office Agency recruit Graduate Valuation Surveyors across England, Wales and Scotland to undertake a 24-month structured route through to Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). By undertaking the graduate programme, you will successfully achieve your goal of Chartered Surveyor status (MRICS).
This exciting role could mean you are inspecting a range of office or retail properties one day to then find yourself involved in the valuation of a stately home or a large national infrastructure project the next.
If you enjoy working within a fast paced, challenging environment then this is an excellent opportunity to join our highly skilled and diverse organisation.
Throughout your journey you will be fully supported by experienced colleagues across the agency including a Supervisor, MRICS qualified Counsellor, the Learning and Development team who help you become competent in undertaking wide-ranging property and valuation types and the Development Team who ensure the overall quality of the programme and act as a point of escalation.
You will also maintain regular contact with your Line Manager who will allocate relevant work provided to assist you with your APC and hold monthly development and performance conversations. Furthermore, candidates’ success rate is well above average but (subject to certain criteria) we will fund a second attempt should it be necessary.
When the VOA say they value their people, they mean it. As graduates we were quickly exposed to an appropriate amount of responsibility, but always with a plethora of support and guidance from buddies, supervisors, counsellors, managers, team leaders, and anyone else sat in the office -everyone wants to help and see us develop. This supportive culture sets us apart from many private sector firms, and undoubtedly plays a key role towards the VOA’s outstanding APC pass rate.
The work itself is extremely varied, providing us with an extensive breadth of experience. A typical week as a graduate includes tackling your own caseload, liaising with agents and resolving disputes, attending training and CPD events, meeting with your supervisor to discuss your progress, and inspecting a range of properties, from prime offices in Mayfair to take-aways in outer London.
My experience working at the VOA has been thoroughly rewarding and enjoyable - it has a supportive culture and offers an excellent flexible work-life balance. As a graduate, I have found the comprehensive training and support to be extremely valuable for my progression.
The varied experiences gained through practical work, and everyone here who is eager to share their expertise has helped to build my knowledge and confidence. I truly believe that the VOA has given me solid foundations for my professional development, and I highly recommend the graduate scheme to anyone interested in starting a career in surveying.
